Our History
An Early Start! Company founder Doug Green, is a lifelong car and motorcycle enthusiast, and was an early adopter in the world of EVs. Back in 2005, Doug purchased and completely refurbished a 1984 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck that had previously been professionally converted to electric operation by Canadian Electric Vehicles. This particular truck had originally been commissioned by Moe Sihota, when he was BC’s Minister of the Environment in the 1990s.
When Doug took possession of the vehicle, it had not run for years, and needed motor repairs, new batteries, new paint, and a new charging system. The truck had originally been converted to an EV by replacing the gas engine with an electric forklift motor bolted to the original transmission, and installing metal boxes both under the hood and in the bed to hold the (20) flooded lead acid golf cart batteries that powered it (the batteries alone weighed more than 1,600lbs – the truck’s suspension was reinforced to handle the weight!).
The battery pack was replaced and upgraded to (24) batteries, along with numerous other enhancements to improve aesthetics, reliability, and driveability. The ‘Voltmobile’ was put back on the road, and Doug used it as his daily transportation for more than 3 years!
Still pursuing his passion and interested in pushing the envelope with new technologies, today Doug drives and rides more modern electric vehicles, including this custom-made high performance Sunahme e-bike.
